The City of Southlake enlisted an engineering firm to lead the design team for the Dove Road at Carroll Avenue Roundabout and Drainage project. This intersection presented a unique situation in that it was congested during peak times, frequently flooded during heavy rain, and a middle school is located on one corner. After the initial evaluation of the intersection, the firm recommended the roundabout solution because it would reduce delay to motorists by 80% at a similar cost to the construction of turn lanes and a traffic signal. |

Other benefits include reduced speeds which encourage compliance with the school zone speed limits, and simplified pedestrian crossings. The intersection was completely closed and rebuilt during the summer months when school was not in session. The final design met the client’s goals to improve traffic operations, solve drainage problems, produce an aesthetically pleasing project, and provide for vehicular and pedestrian safety. |
